After suspected sabotage, security measures were increased in the German barracks

Date:

The German Bundeswehr has tightened security measures for the barracks following reports of possible intruders. The background is the sensational reports of the past few days about attempts to sabotage the drinking water supply.

A spokeswoman for the Territorial Command in Berlin said they had responded nationwide with increased controls, stronger patrols, checking fences, closing some areas and raising awareness. The measures would be adapted to the respective situation.

Close loopholes in the law, more stripes at night
According to Spiegel, the barracks were ordered to closely check the external fences of all facilities for loopholes. There should also be more patrols, especially at night. The superiors had sensitized their soldiers to beware of unauthorized persons in the security areas and to report suspicious cases immediately.

The lowest of the four security levels, the “Alpha” level, still applies to Bundeswehr facilities, the spokeswoman said. Last week, the Bundeswehr removed suspicions of sabotage of the drinking water supply at the Cologne-Wahn air base.
