A terrible story is currently making Britain reel. A dog has killed another human. Particularly tragic: it was actually his closest confidant.
A 53-year-old man was fatally injured in his home by his own dog, police in the northwestern English county of Lancashire said. The animal was an XL Bully.
After several deaths, the British government has effectively banned the dog breed, making it illegal to keep them only under strict conditions.
The animal could not be calmed
On Tuesday, the police were alerted. The dog posed a significant danger and they had no choice to prevent it from injuring more people. The investigators therefore shot the animal dead.
“This is a tragic incident which has sadly resulted in a man losing his life,” police wrote. The circumstances of the Accrington case are still under investigation. Specially trained officers are said to be caring for the man’s family. Fatal incidents involving dogs continue to occur in the UK.
