On the one hand, his via ferrata set probably saved the life of a 42-year-old on Wednesday, but on the other hand, he injured himself so badly after a slip that the Bad Eisenkappel mountain rescue service had to be called.
On Wednesday, a 42-year-old climber was standing in fantastic weather on the via ferrata Koschlak near Bad Eisenkappel. At around 17:41, he had already reached the upper third when he suddenly slipped.
“He fell in his via ferrata device, but injured his head,” the Bad Eisenkappel mountain rescue service reports. When the emergency services arrived, the plan was to rescue the man by abseiling.
“Unfortunately, the man’s circulation deteriorated, so the C11 rescue helicopter was called in,” the rescuers said. “The 42-year-old was safely rescued from the via ferrata using a rope rescue and flown to the UKH Klagenfurt. We wish you a speedy recovery.”
