In Ratschendorf, in the southeast of Styria, a 41-year-old woman was seriously injured by a flash of flames on Tuesday evening. Tinkering with her boiler room had backfired. She was flown to the LKH Graz with burns.
On Tuesday evening, tinkering with a pellet heating system led to an accident with fatal consequences: a 41-year-old woman may have converted a large plastic barrel into a pellet funnel in the boiler room of her home. She was working with PU foam and probably also used a cordless screwdriver.
Dangerous combination
These two utensils turned out to be a dangerous combination: During the hardening of the PU foam, gases may have collected at the bottom of the container and were ignited by sparks from the cordless screwdriver. A flash of flame appeared out of nowhere – the woman from Styria could no longer ignore it.
To the hospital by helicopter
She suffered severe burns and had to be treated by the emergency services as soon as possible. They were flown to the LKH Graz by the rescue helicopter Christophorus 12. The fire brigade of Ratschendorf also responded with twelve emergency services, but a fire operation was not necessary.
