Cow-killed hiker – search for cow attack trigger continues

Date:

A herd of cows killed a hiker in Hofgastein. But what caused the attack? Was it barking dogs or the missing fence? The investigation into the cause is ongoing. On October 2, the immunity of the accused MP and the herd owner will be lifted in the state parliament.

The shock was deep: on June 26, a local woman (40) was walking with her two daughters (then 20 and 23 years old) on the Schlossalm. The walkers were attacked by a herd of cows in the Schlossalm area. The mother died, one daughter was seriously injured and one daughter was slightly injured. This herd is owned by a member of parliament of the Salzburg ÖVP and farmers. This reports the ‘Krone’.

The accident is said to have started after the dog barkedN
Since then, the search for the cause has been in full swing. According to information from “Krone”, 25 mother cows and around 20 calves were grazing on the Hofgasteiner Alm on the day of the accident. Initially, the cows are said to have avoided the hikers with the dogs in their arms. When a dog started barking, the accident is said to have started.

The Public Prosecutor suspects the herd owner of negligence causing the death of the mother. It is said that the herd may not have been stored properly. Now the immunity of the member of the state parliament must be lifted on October 2.

A comparison with the cow inspections in Tyrol inevitably comes to mind. In 2014 and 2017, fatal cow attacks took place at various locations. In both cases, the Public Prosecution Service closed the investigations.
