The search for writer Bodo Hell has been going on for days in the Dachstein area. On Thursday, a group of mountain rescuers set out again to find the 81-year-old. Instead of Hell, however, a grenade from World War II was found, which was then professionally blown up.
The approximately 50 kilogram grenade from the Second World War was detonated in Obertraun at around 14:20. Earlier, at an altitude of approximately 1,960 meters above sea level, in the area of the Niederer Speikberg, the war relic was discovered by chance by a member of the mountain rescue service during a search for the missing person.
Flown away by helicopter
The Federal Army’s mine clearance service, a police department with expertise in explosives and three members of the Alpine police were transported by police helicopter to the vicinity of the site. The subsequent controlled demolition proceeded without incident.
