He already has ten kilos more on his ribs, loves the sun, can smell his partner well: Puma “Pele”, who was rescued from a narrow wooden box in Germany, loves Herberstein in Styria!
It’s been a week since the gaunt cougar “Pele” arrived crammed into a wooden box in Herberstein’s animal world – and he seems to be doing really well! “In total, he has already gained ten kilos,” describes spokeswoman Karin Winkler. What a blessing to the malnourished animal. And so he continues to enjoy a pampering program.
Two kilos of meat a day
Normally a cougar has two fast days a week – but “Pele” eats two kilos of meat a day until he has what is normal for a noble cat of his age on his ribs. To determine his weight safely, a scale was installed on his berth.
What is very moving even for visitors who can already admire “Pele”: how much the animal enjoys the sun. It may not have seen much beauty so far.
“Pele” can already smell her partner
His “promised” partner Missoula, who is still separated from him by a fence, looks at him curiously; but he can literally smell them well. In two to three weeks, according to the Herbersteiner’s hopeful predictions, there could be a partnership. Then “Pele” is finally lucky.
