The attacker who killed three people on Friday evening is said to be between 20 and 30 years old and to have a southern appearance. An arrest has already been made, but it is said not to have been the attacker.

It concerns a man between 20 and 30 years old, who is about 1.7 to 1.75 meters tall. He has an athletic build and a thick, short beard; he stood out because of his black clothes and cap. According to witnesses, he had a southern appearance.
Teen Arrested in Parents’ Apartment
According to “Bild”, an arrest was made early Saturday morning by the special operations team. A witness thought he recognized the suspect; he had apparently already been spotted at another crime. Police overpowered the alleged teenager in his parents’ apartment and questioned him. However, investigators do not believe the young man was the knife attacker.
Police: ‘Do not approach suspects’
According to the police, it is still unclear whether there was one or two perpetrators; there are conflicting witness statements. The population was still urged to be careful, especially in the city center. “Anyone who sees a suspicious person should immediately call 110 and not talk to him,” a spokesman for the police in Düsseldorf advised.
The massacre took place right in front of the stage where live bands and DJs were supposed to entertain the visitors of the city festival. Tobias Topic was playing during the attack – the DJ kept playing music to “avoid mass panic”, as the “Berliner Morgenpost” reported.

DJ sought refuge in the corporate world
Security personnel informed him of a stabbing on stage. “I kept going even though it was incredibly difficult,” the DJ said on Instagram. Then, after 10 to 15 minutes, the music was turned off and people were informed of the incident. He eventually barricaded himself in a nearby store.
“I can’t believe it… it’s supposed to be a free festival for everyone. “Good friends were there with their kids,” the shocked musician said on Instagram. “I’m writing this as a helicopter flies over my childhood home, a small town in Germany. What’s going on in this world?” Topic asks. His thoughts are with everyone affected by the attack.
