Islamic State claims responsibility for attack that left three dead and eight injured in Germany

A 15-year-old minor has been arrested for his alleged connection to the attack. The teen is suspected of having prior knowledge of the event and not acting to prevent it, but investigators believe he is not the attacker, whose whereabouts remain unknown.

Late in the afternoon, Islamic State took responsibility for the attack attack in Germany that left three dead and eight injuredas reported by news agencies.

The German police announced this on Saturday the arrest of a minor under the age of 15 supposedly linked attack that took place last Friday in the city of Solingen.

“A person was arrested during the searches and checks are underway to determine whether there is any connection with the crime,” said Düsseldorf police.

The teenager yes suspected of insider trading of the event and that they did not act to prevent it, but the investigators they believe it is not the attackerwho probably acted alone.

Police reported carrying out “various police measures, including searches in various places”, without providing further details.

The attack

At around 21:45 (local time) on Friday, a man of unknown identity began stabbing people indiscriminately at Fronhof, a market place in the city centre where a stage had been set up for the 650th anniversary commemoration events for Solingen. He managed to escape by taking advantage of the chaos, leaving three dead and eight wounded in his wake, five of them seriously.

German police investigating attack terrorist attack and has launched a major operation with numerous armed officers, special vehicles and helicopter support to track down the person responsible, about whom the police do not have sufficient information.

Police have asked the public to provide evidence or images from the moment of the attack via an internet portal created especially for this purpose, in an attempt to strengthen the search criteria.

Authorities believe he is a single man and have no information about possible accomplices. The man managed to escape in panic after stabbing several people in the neck.

The incidents occurred during a concert that was part of the festival, which has been suspended. Residents have been asked to avoid the old city center and stay home if possible.

“In Solingen we are all shocked. We wanted to celebrate the birthday of our city and now we have to mourn the dead and the wounded. I have tears in my eyes and my heart is broken. I think of those who died and I pray for those who are still fighting for their lives,” wrote Solingen Mayor Tim Kurzbach on Facebook.

The attack came days after Interior Minister Nancy Faeser announced plans to restrict the carrying of long knives in public. According to police statistics, 9,000 cases of knife injuries were recorded in Germany last year.
