On Thursday, a woman from Graz was the victim of a telephone scam. She handed criminals cash and valuables worth several hundred thousand euros.
Around 2 p.m. the phone of the 59-year-old woman from the Gries district in Graz rang. The display showed a number with a German area code, and when she picked it up, a man posing as a police officer answered.
In accent-free German, the perpetrator stated in the telephone conversation that he was on the trail of a gang of six burglars, two of whom had already been arrested on Triester Strasse. A list of names and addresses was found, which also included the 59-year-old.

The victim had a three-hour conversation in which the scammer convinced her that her valuables were not safe at the bank. A corrupt bank official is ominous there.
The woman from Graz was even persuaded to collect cash and other valuables from her home bank. When she got home, she packed everything in a bag and put it outside her front door.
That’s where the perpetrators collected their loot. The woman suffered damage of several hundred thousand euros. The police immediately launched an investigation.
