After a call for help in the hotspot district of Vienna, the police arrived. Officers found a dead woman and her boyfriend is considered a suspect. The “Krone” spoke to a neighbor, she said: “I know him from walking the dog.”
An eerie silence reigns in the cooperative building in the middle of Favoriten on Sunday. The police were alerted in the morning. They discovered a female body in an apartment on Columbusgasse. It is the sixteenth murder of women this year.
“Due to the injuries, it must be assumed that it was a murder,” confirmed police spokeswoman Julia Schick. A 39-year-old man who had a relationship with the older woman is suspected. He was arrested.
Neighbors in shock
There is unrest in the house. Neighbor Michaela is shocked. “I woke up in the morning because I heard a woman screaming for help. She was crying too,” she says. Then the 20-year-old heard objects flying through the apartment. She looked, the apartment door was open. Then the police came. Michaela: “When I went for a walk with my dog, I saw traces of blood through the open door.”
“We know each other from walking the dog”
She only knew the alleged perpetrator by saying hello. “He also had a dog at one point. We would meet in the stairwell or during our rounds and exchange a few words. He seemed normal and nice,” says Michaela. But she has never seen a woman. “I also imagined that two men lived here. This is the first time I have heard of a woman.”
How does she feel now? “The 10th arrondissement has become less safe in general. But the fact that something like this is happening right next door makes it even worse.”
