A human head was discovered in a plastic bag on a grass verge in Duisburg. As the police and the public prosecutor’s office in the North Rhine-Westphalian city announced on Sunday, they are now investigating a 26-year-old for murder in the case.
The human head thus belonged to a 57-year-old who was probably murdered by them. However, the background of the crime is still unclear, it was said.
Body found in apartment
According to investigators, a witness found the bag containing the “remains of a human head” in the Obermarxloh district on Saturday and alerted the police. The officers discovered the matching body while searching a nearby apartment.
Further investigation then led to the identification of the suspect. He was arrested on Saturday and remanded in custody on Sunday by order of the court.
Background still unclear
An autopsy by coroners showed that the 57-year-old died as a result of a violent crime. Police and the Public Prosecution Service initially gave no further information about the alleged incident, nor about the victim and suspect from Sunday. Among other things, it remained unclear when the man was killed.
