It couldn’t get any stranger: “Querulant” came to Hallstatt to demonstrate

Date:

A well-known Steyr man and three supporters blocked one of the two tunnel tubes in Hallstatt for two hours and made bizarre demands. The mayor is angry with the district council for letting this happen.

It sounds like a joke, but it’s true. After the local citizen list demonstrated against excessive tourism in Hallstatt on Saturday, a well-known troublemaker from Steyr also stood in front of one of the two tunnel tubes on Sunday – a demonstration tourist! Because the obscure contemporary had come to the Inner Salzkammergut especially for his protest action.

The lockdown lasted two hours
While the citizen list was satisfied with a blockade of fifteen minutes, the Steyr man stood on the street with three supporters from 11:00 to 13:00. Once again, traffic to the tourist community had to be diverted alternately via the second tunnel tube.

What did the ‘prophet’ want?
But what did the strange ‘prophet’ actually want to achieve with his action? For example, he asked for “your signature for the preservation of the maternity ward Waidhofen an der Ybbs” on a plaque. He had also registered his demonstration with the authorities because he wanted to advocate for the preservation of the maternity ward, since there was a disproportionately large number of women in the southwestern part of the country who could have children and were willing to give birth. The strange contemporary did not care that this was Lower Austria. Styria was also important to him: the HTL teacher also demonstrated for the reintroduction of the license plate “BA” in Bad Aussee. The man is known to the authorities; in 2020 he blocked the court parking lot in Steyr several times with a tractor.

“It’s not okay”
Hallstatt Mayor Alexander Scheutz says: “That’s not okay. Apparently, Steyr demonstrated for two hours because he heard that the district administration had only approved the citizen list for a quarter of an hour. Fortunately, the police regulated the traffic very well.”

“If only the confusion were less crazy,” the Attwenger duo wrote a few years ago in a song that is slowly becoming the secret anthem.

You can’t make it up that after a demonstration against tourists, tourists come to Hallstatt to demonstrate. This is real satire in real time. Since the fear of artificial intelligence is a big topic at the moment, I’m more afraid of what’s going on in some people’s brains. A system reboot would be urgently needed due to capacity overload…
