A real nightmare happened to a physically disabled woman in the city of Wels on Monday afternoon. The 57-year-old wheelchair user was rammed by a truck. Her injuries were so serious that she did not respond when the emergency services arrived. She was taken to hospital.
The wheelchair driver from Wels was at her home in Boschstrasse around 4 p.m. At the same time, a truck driver from Gmunden wanted to turn right into Kaplanstrasse with his heavy vehicle.
The 51-year-old may have overlooked the 57-year-old during his driving manoeuvres. A collision occurred between a truck and a wheelchair. How exactly this could happen remained unclear at first. The accident is still the subject of a police investigation.
The affected woman survived the incident with serious injuries. When the emergency doctor and the ambulance crew arrived, she was unresponsive. She had to be treated at the scene of the accident and then transferred to the clinic in Wels-Grieskirchen.
