61-year-old remains silent – Sex in a Japanese shrine: Austrian tourist in custody

Date:

A 61-year-old Austrian tourist took a completely wrong turn in the land of cherry blossoms for a spicy hour with a generous local and ended up in a holy place – that’s where the handcuffs clicked…

When bad behavior occurs, even the usually cheerful Japanese lose their smiles – a 61-year-old Austrian experienced this first-hand. Far Eastern culture and etiquette have always been very complex, but sex in broad daylight – and in a Shinto shrine at that – probably wouldn’t be well-received in this country either.

But apparently this point of local customs was a bit difficult for the Austrian tourist to follow, because he dropped all inhibitions for a chat with his Japanese “acquaintance”.

Police arrest lovers on the spot
The fact is that the police in the town of Kesennuma received a strange phone call last Friday. It is said that two people are having sex in the afternoon on the grounds of a shrine.

Although the holy place in the northeast of the country is not in a densely populated area, the witness reports that the couple performed the act of love in a place with a good view. Moreover, the local ‘Romeo’ even leaned directly against the wall of the revered place of worship.

In any case, the local police immediately arrived on the scene, caught the two red-handed and took them to the appropriate police station. The couple must now answer for disrespecting a place of worship, although the woman, a 40-year-old resident of the city, has already admitted her guilt.

However, according to regional media, the Austrian said he would only comment if a lawyer was present. Because he was subsequently assessed as a flight risk, he was arrested and taken to prison. He was reportedly not even allowed to call home.

Iron silence and long wait in the Far East
A request from the “Krone” to the responsible Foreign Ministry has now yielded the first information: “I can confirm the arrest of an Austrian citizen in Japan.

Our embassy in Tokyo is in contact with the affected person and local authorities and is committed to providing the affected person with the best possible support,” said spokeswoman Antonia Praun.

It remains to be seen if and when the lost tourist will be allowed to travel home. A severe punishment seems almost certain.
