The consumer organization has found that Hipercor on Friday August 23rd set the price of soft and intense white label olives equal to the price that the other four supermarket chains had already set. Aldi has also matched the price, which means that there are now six supermarket chains that charge exactly the same for these products. 6.95 euros.

On August 21, Mercadona applied a reduction to the different formats of its intense and mild olive oils, and in the case of one-liter bottles they went from 7.62 to 6.95 euros (0.67 euros less).

Just a few hours later, Facua discovered that three other major supermarkets were doing the same with similar products.

That is why Facua filed a new complaint with the General Directorate of Consumer Affairs in July, in which she revealed parallel increases and decreases in the prices of white olive oil brands from eight major supermarket chains: Mercadona, Hipercor, Eroski, Carrefour, Alcampo, Dia, Aldi and Lidl.

The association’s analyses show how, when one of the chains changes the prices of its own brand of olive oil, the rest constantly imitate it to match it or reduce their differences by a few cents per litre.
