Video surveillance and high fines are supposed to prevent illegal parking. However, this makes it more difficult for craftsmen and companies to deliver materials to customers, as a current case from Upper Austria shows. And it is getting worse.
In the fight against long-term and illegal parking, shopping centres, property managers and private individuals are increasingly relying on video surveillance. The ‘sinners’ then receive cease and desist letters from companies and lawyers who specialise in this very thing. Costs: usually a few hundred euros.
Material unloaded
That is exactly what happened to Rudolf Fink (62). The entrepreneur from Pucking has a sunshade company. “We increasingly have the problem that we cannot find a parking space to unload the material,” he says. For example, he recently parked on the edge of a residential area in Ansfelden – for twelve minutes. The company car was in a no-parking zone. A few days later, Fink received a letter asking him to pay more than 137.72 euros. “After unloading, I left immediately,” he says, irritated about the penalty.
It’s getting harder and harder
Because she is not an isolated case. “It has been happening more and more lately. But for us professionals, this means that we first have to look at the park conditions. How should that work? Or I can charge the customers the fines, but that is not possible either,” says the entrepreneur.
No Mercy
The property management company, which has hired a private company to monitor the parking ban, is ruthless. “As a responsible property management company, WSG, we attach great importance to ensuring that the areas where parking is prohibited are kept clear, so that emergency vehicles can pass unhindered in the event of an emergency. The safety of our tenants is our top priority.”
