The fire brigade is also there for animals! That is what the comrades of the volunteer fire brigade Ottensheim in Upper Austria demonstrated on Tuesday evening. They freed a desperate deer from a difficult situation and in doing so unknowingly ensured that three fawns did not lose their mother.
It was early Tuesday evening when a resident of Ottensheim made a discovery. A deer got caught in the gate of private property and could no longer go back and forth. The resident immediately called the emergency number of the fire department.
Animal is already weakened
“The animal could no longer get through the fence with its pelvis,” commander Josef Amtmann describes the situation. And he immediately grabbed the completely frightened and weakened animal. The deer was then quickly freed with the help of a hydraulic rescue device.
Descendants waited in the forest
“We have now called a hunter because we did not know how badly the animal was injured,” says Amtmann. Fortunately, it turned out that the deer only had minor abrasions and so it was released again.
“Luckily, because the hunter told us that the animal had three fawns waiting in the forest,” said Amtmann.
