An ominous argument between a 37-year-old and another man over alleged unpaid wages escalated in Vienna-Penzing on Wednesday evening: After punching the 37-year-old in the face, his opponent fled, turned around and fired shots at the man. The victim was narrowly missed.
“Neighbors and residents heard the shots and called the police,” said spokesman Mattias Schuster. In the meantime, the suspect has run away.
Likely third party involved
When police arrived, they found the 37-year-old, who was barely missed by the bullets. He told officers the conversation was about alleged back pay on his part, but that he did not know the suspect. Police believe the unknown person was sent by a third party to meet the victim, as Schuster explained.
At least one shot was fired
At least one cartridge case was found at the crime scene, which could be attributed to a gun. “There was at least one shot,” Schuster said. The investigators are now clarifying whether there are possible video recordings from the area around the crime scene. The National Criminal Investigation Department is investigating attempted murder in the case.
