Dark clouds over the Hohe Warte: The Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a former coach of the First Vienna Football Club 1894. The ex-coach is being investigated on suspicion of sexual assault and suspected abuse of authority.
The “Krone” has received an internal letter from the football club, announcing that contact details of all players suspected of being coaches in teams had been forwarded to authorities. Two current advertisements for the women’s team of blue and yellow from Döbling got the ball rolling.
“The incidents would go back several years and were also known internally, but those responsible for the club would have done nothing,” said a closed-door insider.
It was only after the two advertisements that the oldest club in the country, whose women’s team finished fourth last season, became active.
The suspected former trainer – who is presumed innocent – has long resigned. “It is an ongoing investigation, I can’t say more about it at the moment,” said Vienna spokesman Christian Kopf on Saturday when asked about “Krone”. If charged and convicted, the suspect faces a maximum prison sentence of 15 years.
