“Not possible” – Brutal home burglary: couple seriously injured

Date:

In November 2017, a 37-year-old allegedly broke into a Lower Austrian couple’s home and brutally beat them. While DNA traces of the Bulgarian in the home should prove this, the lawyer argues: “That would not have been possible at all.”

It has been almost seven years since two men entered a couple’s home in Strimpfling, Lower Austria, through a basement window – while the residents were home. “His entire face was completely swollen,” said the prosecutor at the Korneuburg regional court, describing how the intruders beat the 67-year-old black and blue.

There were threats to set the husband on fire
They also became violent towards the woman before pouring liquid on her husband and threatening to set him on fire if she did not get money and valuables. The burglars eventually fled, leaving their victims seriously injured and, above all, severely traumatized. The 67-year-old, who worked as a farmer, had to take early retirement due to permanent vision and balance problems.

These long-term consequences are now also the reason why a 39-year-old is standing before a jury. The Bulgarian is said to have committed the brutal home invasion with a second unknown person; his DNA was found in three places on the square. Years later, the genetic material finally yielded a hit.

“Not possible at all”
But the eight-times convicted man and his lawyer Peter Philipp find it difficult to explain. The Bulgarian is innocent. “Home burglary is a terrible crime. We don’t even have to talk about it,” admits lawyer Philipp. However, his client shattered his heel bone two and a half months before the terrible burglary – documents from the Vienna General Hospital are said to prove this. The uninsured person could not afford an operation. “In that situation, it would not have been possible for him to commit a home burglary.”

The chairman is still skeptical: “That is a very strong suspicion if her DNA trace is found three times.” The suspect tries to explain this with his stolen backpack and sweaty sportswear. “Because of the DNA on the closet door, you could think that you were there and not just your backpack,” asks Mrs. Rat. “I can’t even walk normally. I really couldn’t stand anymore then. I walked everywhere with crutches.” Finally he presents his limping gait to everyone present in the courtroom.

The 37-year-old is also accused of another attempted home burglary in Vienna-Brigittenau in 2018. The summons for further witnesses and an expert has been postponed until October 28.
