The vaccination will begin this Sunday and will be carried out in stages in the three areas of Gaza. More than 1.2 million polio vaccines will be delivered.
The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed on Thursday that Israeli authorities have agreed to impose “humanitarian pauses” on the polio vaccination campaign in the Gaza Strip, which is set to begin this Sunday.
In concrete terms, a “humanitarian pause” will be imposed for a total of nine days, with three days for each area: the center, the south and the north. After the completion of the first round, a second round will begin within “four weeks” with the vaccination of the population of Gaza, said the WHO representative in the occupied Palestinian territories, Rik Peeperkorn.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza, controlled by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), confirmed last Sunday that more than 1.2 million polio vaccines had arrived.
