Leaking pool – Old outdoor pool “swallows” too much water

Date:

It splashes day and night in the baths of Au am Leithaberge. It should, one would think. But a lot of water just flows into the canal.

Franz Robitza finds a waste of valuable drinking water in his birthplace Au am Leithaberge in the Bruck an der Leitha district: “The inflow to our outdoor pool flows day and night. It doesn’t matter what the weather is like.” The retired client and alderman of the Future Alliance (ZUM) is convinced that the swimming pool is leaking. Although the foil was partially renewed for the reopening after the Corona break: “In the past, ten cubic meters of water per day were topped up, today that is 62.5.” This is unacceptable to Robitza: “It’s a waste of valuable resources. It hurts me.”

The old outdoor pool is a burden that Mayor Reka Fekete (ÖVP) has “inherited”. She’s only been on the job for four months. She emphasizes: “The population is happy that the pool is ready to cool down after two Corona summers.” But Fekete also emphasizes: “Technically, the pool is exactly the same as it was in the 1960s when it was built.” There is no ring main, the water is chlorinated manually: “Therefore a constant supply of fresh water is necessary.”

But in Au am Leithaberge, the (spa) future has already begun. A project group is considering plans for a renewal. A new construction will not be financially possible: “There are considerations for technical adaptation or for a natural swimming pool.” Fekete prefers the latter – decision in the fall.
