Three youngsters broke into a youth centre drunk, made themselves something to eat and set off a fire alarm. All three had to go to court for burglary.
A very crazy idea led to the criminal case at the Salzburg regional court on Friday. Three local boys aged 14 and 15 had to answer for the strangest burglary: at the end of May, they had unknowingly found the key to the Oberndorf youth centre. Drunk, they broke into the JUZ premises in the middle of the night. The trio was probably having fun, got a drink themselves – and then one of the three got hungry. Without further ado, the three boys put a frozen pizza in the oven.
Confession and regret
Then something happened that has probably happened to everyone before: the boys forgot the pizza. The frozen goods burned and the escaping smoke caused the fire alarm. The result: twenty people from the local volunteer fire brigade went to the fire with three vehicles. There was no fire, but there was 900 euros in damage.
During the trial on Friday at the regional court, the boys showed remorse and made a confession: a 14-year-old would have to do 80 hours of community service and then the proceedings would be stopped. A second teenager (15), who had already been convicted, was given a month’s probation. And the third of the group has already been convicted in a separate case.
