The workers’ assembly of Cementos Rezola accepts the ERE

Date:

The company will begin implementing it next Monday. LAB explained that management has committed that “there will be no forced redundancies, that the conditions of early retirees will improve and that those made redundant will be given priority to return if there are vacancies.”

The workers’ assembly at the Cementos Rezola plant in the San Sebastian district of Añorga has voted in favor of Heidelberg Materials’ ERE proposal, LAB said in a statement.

LAB has convened its general meeting on Friday, as the company will start implementing the ERE next Monday, which will affect 56 employees, half of its workforce.

According to sources from this center, the management promises in its latest proposal that “There are no forced redundancies, the conditions of early retirees are improving and those who are made redundant are given priority to return to the company if there are vacancies”.

This union has criticised the ‘attitude’ maintained by ELA during the meeting, in which, according to LAB, it ‘gave directives to those present not to participate in the vote and pressured those who wanted to vote not to do so’.

“In this way, the corporate interests of the union have been revealed above the opinion of the workers,” LAB criticizes.

After the vote at the meeting, the works council transferred the decision to management.

ELA, for its part, explained that it does not accept the company’s latest proposal, which it described as “insufficient”, as it provides for “54 redundancies” instead of 56, by “adding two people to the early retirement scheme”.

The union department of ELA has therefore decided to legalise the process and has already filed a lawsuit against the Labor Regulations File (ERE). From this union they have indicated that “we must continue to fight”, because according to them “we can achieve more”.

HONOR

Heidelberg Materials announced on August 12 that it had informed the Territorial Delegation of Labor and Social Security of Gipuzkoa that it would implement the ERE presented in June after the consultation period, during which the legal representation of the workers ended without agreement, would take place.

The company subsequently assured that despite the lack of a final agreement with the negotiating committee, 52 of the 56 have accepted some of the proposed measures.

According to their figures, 16 people have joined the early retirement program, 26 have taken compensated leave with access to the “premium” external relocation service (8 of them are over 54 years old); and 10 have chosen to move to the Arrigorriaga factory.
