Serious fraud – Tennengauer was scammed when he sold his car

Date:

The tricks are getting more and more daring: a man wanted to sell his car over the internet and had to pay in advance for transport, customs and insurance. The 21-year-old from Tennengau followed the instructions of a woman in good faith and promptly became the victim of fraud.

“It is unbelievable what scams the fraudsters have come up with,” says the Salzburg police. What happened? A 21-year-old from Tennengau fell victim to serious fraud. The man wanted to sell his car online at the end of August. An unknown woman agreed. The agreed purchase price: 8,000 euros.

What sounds innocent quickly turned into a blatant scam. The woman asked the young man to have the transport to Germany carried out by a specific shipping company and to pay the costs in advance – ultimately with the promise to get his advance, including the sales price, back as a total transfer.

The Tennengauer then transferred 11,000 euros in good faith that this would cover the transport, customs and insurance. On 3 September, the sobering realisation came that he had been scammed. When he asked the shipping company in question, he was told that the email addresses in question did not exist. The man has filed a report. The police are now investigating.
