Enthusiastic hiker discovers dangerous spot on Villach’s local mountain. Mayor has simple solution.
The Dobratsch is a hiking paradise with numerous hiking trails. One of them, the Jägersteig on the south side, can quickly become fatal.
Hiker Horst Plankenauer is also sounding the alarm. “There is a spot where it goes downhill for about 1000 meters. Especially when it rains, this spot is extremely dangerous to slip. And that can end badly.”
Want to identify dangerous places
Although a sign has been placed at the beginning of the path stating that you may only enter the Jägersteig if you are able-bodied, the enthusiastic hiker still wants to point out the danger spot. Plankenauer also wrote a letter to the mayor of Villach, Günther Albel.
Path not marked
“The Jägersteig is not a marked hiking trail. As a safer alternative, we recommend hiking trail 294, which leads to the Bärental and then to the mountain house. This trail is also managed by the Alpine Club,” said the mayor’s office of Villach in response to a “Krone” request.
But Plankenauer is not satisfied with this and would like to see the problem solved, because “you also pay tolls on the Dobratsch and a simple steel cable at this dangerous point would solve the problem.”
