Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who overlooked a ten-year-old boy on the Schutzweg in Neuhofen an der Krems (Upper Austria). Despite braking hard, the driver hit the student. The driver did not stop and the boy had to be taken to hospital by his parents later that day.
A previously unknown driver was driving a blue station wagon – possibly a Skoda – on the Kremstal-Landesstraße (B139) in the Neuhofen/Krems region at around 2:25 p.m. on Tuesday. At the same time, a ten-year-old boy from the neighborhood was walking along the Kirchengasse towards the B139, where he wanted to cross the federal road on the protective path next to the Kirchengasse/B139 intersection. After a car from the direction of Kematen/Krems stopped, the student started to cross the B139 on the protective path.
Hard braking didn’t help anymore
At this point, the unknown driver also approached the protective path on the oncoming traffic. He probably noticed the student too late. The driver immediately braked, but could not stop his station wagon in time and hit the student. Shocked, the boy immediately left the scene of the accident and walked home, where he informed his parents about the accident.
The pain got worse and worse
The unknown driver also left the scene of the accident on the B139 towards Kematen immediately after the accident. There are currently no indications that a vehicle was hit. Due to increasing pain, the slightly injured ten-year-old went to the hospital with his mother the same day, which he was able to leave after outpatient treatment.
If you have any information about the accident or the driver who was hit, please contact the Neuhofen/Krems police station on 059133 4139.
