The heat wave in France and President Emmanuel Macron’s trip to Ukraine on Thursday overshadowed the conclusion of the campaign for the second round of tomorrow’s parliamentary elections. With 14 of the 101 Gallic departments on red alert due to high temperatures, the attention of the citizens and the French press is more focused on the rise in thermometers than on the latest forecasts from polling stations on the distribution of seats in the National Assembly .
In the first round of parliamentary elections, held last Sunday, Ensemble (Together), which unites Macron’s party and its allies, tied with the left-wing trade union (Nupes) led by Jean with 25.75% of the vote. -Luc Mélenchon, who received 25.66% of the vote. Macron’s party could lose its absolute majority this Sunday. If he reaches a relative, he would be forced to agree with Republicans (moderate right) in time to push through his reforms.
Mélenchon is convinced that the trade union of left-wing parties can win the parliamentary elections, although the demoscopic institutions do not expect it. “I will be at home on Monday morning, waiting for the call from the President of the Republic to ask me to form a cabinet,” said the leader of the French avant-garde, who dreams of becoming prime minister in a cohabiting government. The far-right Marine Le Pen, a candidate for parliament in a Pas-de-Calais constituency, for her part, urged her voters to go to the polls to elect “patriotic deputies” and “sanction” Macron.
According to chair projections from the Ipsos Institute, Macron’s party and its allies would end up between 265 and 305; and the union of the left (Nupes), between 140 and 180 deputies. The Republicans (moderate right) would get between 60 and 80, the party of Marine Le Pen between 20 and 50. For an absolute majority, at least 289 are needed.
