On the way to the workshop – the tractor caught fire while driving

Date:

A frightening moment for a man from Burgenland on Friday in East Styria: while driving, his tractor suddenly caught fire. All attempts to extinguish the fire failed. The damage amounts to over 100,000 euros; fortunately, the driver remained unharmed.

The 52-year-old was on his way to the workshop in Buch-St. Magdalena (Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district) shortly before 4 p.m. Hours earlier, the Burgenlander had noticed smoke from the engine compartment of his tractor during mowing work near his home in the Güssing district. He wanted to have it looked at.

But unfortunately too late. Because in the vicinity of St. Magdalena the tractor suddenly started to burn. “Direct attempts by the driver and a neighbor to extinguish the fire were not successful. “Only the fire brigade of Buch-Geiselsdorf with the support of the fire brigades of Sebersdorf and Hartberg were able to get the fire under control,” said police spokesman Christoph Grill on Saturday morning.

The fire operation lasted five hours
After the fire department had extinguished the fire, the canals were cleaned and the oil was bound to the road. The contaminated soil was dug up and the damaged vehicle was recovered. After about five hours, the mission of the volunteer helpers was over.

The tractor was a total loss and the pasture and the road were also damaged by the flames. The cause of the fire was probably a technical defect.
