The fire brigade has been faced with a challenge in recent weeks: first a wooden hut burned down, then another and finally the Floriani had to fight a fire in an empty farmhouse. Now it is clear who is responsible for this.
It was August 13th when around 5:00 p.m. a wooden hut in a clearing in the forest began to burn. Only a few days later another hut caught fire and burned down completely! Even less time passed between the third fire nearby, which destroyed an empty farm building.
At that point at the latest, the police officers knew they were on the trail of a fiery devil. After some clues and intensive investigation, the detectives of the Klagenfurt city police command were able to solve the mystery with the support of the Pischeldorfer Straße police station.
Young people responsible for fires
The trail eventually led to a group of young people, all between the ages of 14 and 18. “The young people confessed during interrogations,” state police said. They allegedly admitted to starting the fires by using a lighter to light hay stored in the buildings.
Fires were started and filmed “for coolness”.
“The individual crimes were filmed on a mobile phone video camera and shared via a Snap chat group,” continued police, who have already identified the motives: “The motive was likely boredom and cold-bloodedness, although the young people were aware of the potential scale of the crime. “We were clearly unaware of the fires at the time of the crime.”
The young people who have not been noticed so far will be reported to the Klagenfurt prosecutor’s office in accordance with their respective responsibilities. The extent of the damage caused is currently unknown.
