New details about the escape from the police: German got stuck in his car between two trees south of Graz. The 28-year-old stormed out of a closed clinic in Bavaria with his accomplices.
After the spectacular escape of four criminals by taking hostages from a closed facility in Bavaria, two of the wanted men were arrested in Styria. Details of the second arrest in Premstätten (Graz area district) have now become known. After the large-scale police action around Hartberg – a witness had seen the wanted man – an alarm search for the man, who was classified as violent and was probably in Styria because of contacts in the drug scene, was initially unsuccessful. Research results from the LKA Styria (search group) and information from colleagues from the street crime task force (EGS) eventually led to an abandoned farm south of Graz.
Wild chase through the forest
When the EGS wanted to arrest the criminal (28), who was in the car in front of the building on Wednesday evening, he stepped on the gas pedal. What followed was a miles-long chase through the forest, which ended when the German got stuck between two trees with his car. The getaway car is a mess and a police car was also towed away.
Detectives have seized several thousand euros from the fugitive, which he stole during burglaries in Styria, Carinthia, Lower Austria and Burgenland. He was probably planning his further escape.
The criminal didn’t say much more after his sensational arrest, except that the hostage-taking and escape had taken place under the influence of drugs. He and his accomplices used the drugs in the psychiatric hospital. As reported, the first perpetrator was arrested in eastern Styria at the end of August.
The remaining members of the gang were arrested in Turkey
On Saturday it was announced that all four had been arrested. The handcuffs also clicked in Turkey. That is where the two members of the gang ended up – to be precise: in the Bulgarian-Greek-Turkish border triangle. According to the Turkish authorities, the men were spotted on August 30 in a migration center in the city of Edirne. During the check it turned out that these were the men who were wanted on the basis of an arrest warrant.
One of the two, a 31-year-old Bosnian, was deported to Germany on Saturday morning and taken to a Bavarian penitentiary. Police said the second man, a 27-year-old Kosovar, was still eligible for deportation to Germany.
