A burning e-scooter battery caused an explosion at a farm in Schiedlberg (Upper Austria) on Friday morning.
The rechargeable battery that caught fire was in an office near an aerosol can. It exploded, dislodging a newly erected drywall. Three fire brigades arrived with nearly 60 emergency services.
They quickly brought the fire in the room under control, but according to police, a firefighter injured his hand while putting out the blaze when he smashed the window into the burning room from outside.
“Huge impact”
The farmer, who is in the fire service himself, was able to leave the living area of the farm with his family in time. Fire chief Michael Purtauf told ORF Upper Austria: “The respiratory protection team has already noticed that the entrance door to the room next door is. They must have torn it out with enormous force. Despite the wooden ceiling, the fire was confined to this one room.”
