The holidays are over, traffic is picking up again: some major construction sites will require a lot of patience from Grazers and commuters. An overview of the current traffic jam hotspots in the capital.
When thousands of students leave the capital on Monday morning and many holidaymakers return to work, traffic jams and traffic chaos are inevitable. Because despite the fact that a lot of road construction work continued this past summer, major projects on important traffic routes still take longer. An overview of the needle eye:
- First of all, good news: the renewal of the tram tracks in the Leonhardstrasse/Maiffredygasse area has been completed, lines 1 and 7 will run there again when school starts. “But the rest of the traffic is still limited; the paving and greening work will continue until the end of September,” explains the head of the Graz Road Authority, Thomas Fischer.
- Further on, on Elisabethstrasse – also an important residential care route – it will take even longer: on the Glacisstrasse-Leonhard section, the renovation work will continue until the end of the year, with only one lane remaining in each direction. The next phase will then be tackled at the end of 2025.
- The work on the new cycle path at the Joanneumring will continue until the end of October. After that, there will only be two lanes for motorised traffic instead of three.
- The mega project to relieve the inner city is also underway. Next milestone: the Tegetthoff Bridge should be accessible again by the end of November.
