A lion that escaped from a circus caused a commotion in the Italian port city of Ladispoli on Saturday. The predator roamed the streets of the city of 40,000 in the north of Rome. Mayor Alessandro Grando warned the population to be “extremely careful”. Only after seven hours were police and circus staff able to capture the lion again.
Several videos are circulating on the Internet in which the animal appears to leisurely walk through the streets of the port city and along the sidewalks.
Videos of the escaping lion:
Most residents remained in their homes and apartments for safety reasons. Some were temporarily stuck in their cars. The animal was later spotted in a reed belt near Ladispoli. In the evening the trail was lost. The lion was spotted again around 10 p.m. and eventually captured with the help of an anesthetic.
