Date:

Terrible traffic accident on Sunday afternoon in Mariazell, Styria (Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district): Two motorcyclists collided head-on on the B21. A woman (43) was seriously injured and a man (72) died at the scene of the accident.

At around 12:00, a 72-year-old motorcyclist was driving on the B21 towards Mariazell. At the same time, a married couple (43 and 52) were driving on their motorcycle on the same route – in the opposite direction to the 72-year-old’s direction of travel.

The elderly driver may have misjudged a right turn, causing his vehicle to cross the center line and end up in the opposite lane. The approaching man was just able to get out of the way. His wife, who was driving behind him, was unable to do so and collided head-on with the 72-year-old.

Husband became an eyewitness
Both persons involved in the accident were thrown from their car and fell onto the road. The rescue chain was immediately set in motion by oncoming road users and first aid measures were taken and resuscitation of the two drivers in the accident was started until the emergency doctor arrived.

The 43-year-old was taken to the University Hospital St. Pölten with life-threatening injuries. The 72-year-old motorcyclist died at the scene of the accident. A blood test for alcohol in the victims was negative.
