A little girl nearly fell victim to a golden eagle in Norway’s Tröndelag region. The bird of prey attacked the child and injured his head until his mother was finally able to free him from the eagle’s clutches.
Head injury and scars
According to the father, the 20-month-old daughter was playing on the family farm when the eagle appeared. The girl’s mother quickly intervened, fought with the bird of prey and barely managed to save her daughter. A neighbor also came to help. According to ‘n-tv’, the child suffered a head injury that required stitches and scratches to his face.
Golden eagle “aggressive”: animal shot
The golden eagle was shot after the incident. Game warden Per Kare Vinterdal said the eagle considered the child prey. Despite the mother and neighbor’s attempts to ward off the bird with sticks, the eagle kept coming back.
An ornithologist described the eagle’s behavior as extremely unusual. The attack on the child was particularly notable because the bird of prey was a young animal that had not yet begun to hunt. The expert suspected that the golden eagle might have been suffering from an illness that explained its aggressive behavior.
