Traffic jams and waiting times – tourist traffic: collapse on Austrian roads

Date:

It’s not just about sweating in the cities, but also on the Austrian highways. As announced, heavy travel on Saturday led to the feared collapse. Nothing worked at several border crossings and for many tunnels – the volume of travel was too high.

On Saturday afternoon alone, the ÖAMTC counted more than a dozen traffic jams and delays. Heavy traffic caused congestion for many tunnels. Block handling was announced for Seefelder Strasse (B177), the St. Michael im Lungau toll station on the Tauernautobahn (A10), the Pfändertunnel on the Rheintal Autobahn (A14) and the Füssen border tunnel (A14).

waiting times at the borders
Good nerves were also required at the border crossings: patience was the order of the day Walserberg on the western autobahn (A1), Karawankentunnel (A11), at Kufstein/Kiefersfelden on the Inntal autobahn (A12), on the Brenner autobahn (A13) and on Seefelderstrasse (B177) near Scharnitz. The reason was often the border controls on the German side because of the upcoming G7 summit.

Traffic jams are also inevitable on Sundays
The result: kilometer-long traffic jams and a loss of time of up to half an hour, and the trend is increasing. Heavy traffic is also to be expected on Sunday during the extended window day weekend – even worse towards the end of the Whitsun holidays in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria.
