A man from Graz got a big fright on Friday night: he found a large, rare giant spider in the stairwell. Their origin is completely mysterious.
The man from Graz lives on the sixth floor of an apartment building on Hans-Sachs-Gasse in Graz, not far from Herrengasse. On Friday evening he made a gruesome discovery in the stairwell: a large spider with a leg length of six centimeters had made itself at home here.
The man called the police, who in turn contacted snake and reptile expert Werner Stangl. He was able to catch the animal with a bucket and quickly made it clear: it is not a similar-looking banana spider that is poisonous and dangerous to humans. The giant crab spider, however, is harmless.
The origin remains mysterious
How she ended up in Graz remains a mystery. The resident himself cannot explain it. The building is almost exclusively occupied by businesses. An unwanted “holiday souvenir” can therefore be ruled out.
