A construction crane fell on two apartment buildings in Munich, damaging at least two apartments. Residents initially reported a leaning crane in the courtyard in the afternoon, which fell over shortly after the emergency services arrived.
The crane, with eight tons of ballast, narrowly missed a neighboring villa, a fire department spokesman said. Firefighters evacuated the two affected buildings. An elderly woman went into shock.
The residents are not allowed to return to their apartments for the time being. With the help of two cranes, the cross-trailer will now be removed from the crane, according to the spokesperson. The fallen crane mast will remain there until it is recovered next week.
The cause of the accident was initially unclear. During the operation, two adjacent streets were closed.
