Dramatic turnaround after drama in a shared apartment in Vienna-Favoriten: It was not the man from the young family present who fatally hit a 24-year-old on the head with a vodka bottle in August, but his wife of the same age. The previous suspect has been released, the ‘new’ suspect is at large.
No stone is left unturned in this murder mystery. Initially, the police spoke of the 24-year-old, who was found lifeless in his shared room in Vienna-Favoriten on August 10, as a serious death. It soon became clear: the young Slovak died after being hit on the head with a glass bottle – a skull fracture in the left parietal bone.
A couple of friends were guests with their baby
Investigators first focused on his partner and roommate. It started as a fun evening of vodka, dance music and schnitzel. But as the drunkenness increased, a loud argument broke out between the couple in the kitchen of their shared apartment, the couple confirmed, who were friends and guests in their home on the night of the crime. They had their six-month-old baby with them. “Our daughter started crying because of that,” the woman testified, saying that was why they left around 9:30 p.m.
Later, the tide turned and her husband became the suspect. On August 15, he came to the police station with his aunt to make a confession. “As a result of an argument, a fight broke out,” the young father now says. Because the victim held him from the front and prevented him from leaving, he grabbed the empty vodka bottle that was on the floor, which they had previously drunk together, and hit him on the head with it. The Slovak then retreated to the stairwell. But he was still alive when his wife, the baby and he left the house.
New confession leads to release from custody
On suspicion of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm resulting in death, the 24-year-old, defended by attorney Sascha Flatz, was arrested that same evening and taken into custody – from which the man was released last week!
The reason for this: In her new interrogation, his wife and mother of their child stated that she had hit him with the bottle, causing his death.
Did the woman act in self-defense?
On August 17, she comes to the police station to change her original statement. “I deliberately did not tell the truth,” she says, adding: “I am here because I actually hit J. on the head with the vodka bottle. Her partner allegedly lied to protect her.” Especially since their daughter is only six months old. According to the new version, the future victim was drunk and got into an argument with her husband. The baby allegedly became restless and then J. attacked her too. That is why she grabbed the bottle and hit it.
Now the 24-year-old suspect. However, the young mother was not taken into custody.
