Lower Austria is still in a state of emergency. The Carinthian fire brigade will continue to assist until Wednesday. The next cat trains are already arriving.
Clear houses and cellars of mud, prepare streams, place sandbags and retention barriers. The Carinthian fire brigade has been in action in the crisis area of Lower Austria since 3 a.m. on Monday morning. “Pumping out cellars and garages was difficult because the water kept pushing back due to the high water levels,” Walter Egger, press spokesman for the Carinthian fire brigade, describes the operation.
Night operations
And Tuesday night we also worked. “In shifts, the pumps at all locations remained in operation all night. In total, around 110 damage areas were completely processed by the Carinthian cat trains or handed over to the emergency services,” Egger continued.
While the cat trains in Spittal, Wolfsberg and Völkermarkt are being dismantled again around 7:00 a.m., the next helpers from Carinthia are already following. “Around 2:00 a.m., cat train 03 left Klagenfurt city and country with no fewer than 172 participants and 33 vehicles and cat train 04 from St. Veit and Feldkirchen with 124 participants and 27 vehicles to Lower Austria and will also do their job for at least 24 hours.”
650 volunteer disaster relief workers
On Wednesday, Kat-Zug 01 from the districts of Villach-Stadt and Land and Hermagor will respond to the call for help from Lower Austria and then a total of around 650 volunteer disaster helpers will have successfully carried out their first Kat operations outside the federal state.
