No sun protection
What sounds amusing at first, carries great risks. Green Party chairman Alexander Hirschenhauser: “The phenomenon is caused by intense sunlight. Then the bark splits open, vermin enters and the tree is doomed to die.”
What is striking about the current victims: both young and 80-year-old trees have been affected. None of them had reached their potential life expectancy. There is now an alarming atmosphere in the neighborhood.
Call for sunscreen
Hirschenhauser: “Due to enormous climate changes and environmental influences, more and more trees will probably die.” In southern Europe, this phenomenon is combated with white paint, a kind of sunscreen made from lime. In the district, this protection is now required for particularly exposed plants of all ages. So far, only young trees have been protected in this way. A corresponding motion has now been adopted unanimously.
