In Klagenfurt, tap water still has to be boiled because it is contaminated with bacteria. Supermarkets are also now sold out.
After checks on Friday showed that drinking water in Klagenfurt was contaminated with enterococci bacteria, which can cause intestinal diseases, mineral water became scarce in several supermarkets.
Not everything is clear yet
According to Stadtwerke boss Erwin Smole, the final all-clear will probably not be given until Monday: “Then we will get the lab results, but the water will not be poisoned. Brushing teeth and washing hands is possible as normal.” These are just precautions.
If you do not have access to water during the weekend, you can get it from the public utility company on Kraßniggstrasse (12:00 – 18:00). The pollution may have been caused by dredging and a damaged sewer line.
