A large fire with heavy smoke broke out on Sunday at a disposal facility in Vienna-Simmering. Alarm level two has been declared by the professional fire brigade. The A4 had to be closed temporarily because of the smoke.
The affected reinforced concrete hall in 7th Haidequerstraße covers an area of more than 1000 square meters. There was a lot of smoke from burning garbage dumps, which was still visible. The fire brigade, who were alerted around 11 a.m., also deployed water cannons.
“The challenge was to bring extinguishing water, several long extinguishing lines had to be constructed,” said a spokesman for the fire brigade. But the troops had “everything under control”. There was no danger to people.
The A4 outside the city also had to be temporarily closed because the heavy smoke obstructed the view. The lockdown was lifted around 11.45 am.
