The flood submerged his farm and fields; a hundred bulls and calves stood in water up to their necks. Bernhard Fidler, a farmer from Rust im Tullnerfeld, has to start all over again, just like hundreds of others. He told the “Krone” his story.
A week after the flood disaster, the community of 485 people west of Tulln still looks like a field of rubble. Fire trucks and military vehicles line the streets. In front of the houses are beds, washing machines and waste containers with everything that used to be part of everyday life and is now bulky waste. Everywhere people are shoveling and clearing. The engines of the pumps and plaster cleaners are running at full speed. Just like the villagers, the emergency services and the many volunteers.
“Crown”: Mr. Fidler, we are sitting here surrounded by furniture, machinery and vehicles in the yard of your farm. Can it all be saved?
