Because an important letter from a doctor did not arrive, a pensioner made inquiries at the post office. Suddenly, the 64-year-old from Linz received 19 letters that were thought to have been lost. At the post office, there is no possibility that the delivery will fail.
Former Linz FP city council member and former head of Linz waste collection, Berthold Amerstorfer (64), is irritated: “I haven’t received any mail for at least the past fourteen days.” Neighbors were also affected: “One drove away on September 4th while on vacation. He had no mail before that, and when he got home, he had none either.”
After Amerstorfer and his wife waited for a letter from a doctor, who assured them he had sent it long ago, the retiree became suspicious and called the postal service’s complaint hotline. They promised to call him back as soon as the problem was found. Amerstorfer is still waiting for that call.
Suddenly everything came at once
But at least the letters showed up. “Three hours after the phone call, I walked past the mailbox and suddenly there were seventeen letters and two magazines in it. Also an invitation to a meeting that I was supposed to attend, but that was on Monday. The oldest letter was postmarked August 29.”
The post office responded with surprise to the request from “Krone”: “I can rule out that there has been no delivery to this address for three weeks. The regular delivery person was out of service for some time, other delivery people served this area. But even then there were only a few days when there was a delay due to sick leave.”
