A serious accident occurred on Saturday morning at the Lavanttal Rally in Carinthia. A racing car crashed into a tree on the Eitweg circuit. The vehicle then caught fire.

According to initial information, the incident occurred during the “Special Stage 6 RK Eitweg 1”. A rally car crashed into a tree. Numerous emergency services immediately went to the scene of the accident to free the driver and his passenger from the accident car.

The vehicle caught fire shortly after the accident. The rapid intervention of the fire brigade prevented a larger fire.

Driver in deep sleep
The driver, it’s Andreas Hulak, is stable, but in an artificial deep sleep. He suffered a broken thigh, broken ribs and broken shoulders, according to the Lavanttal Rally news agency.

Jennifer Hofstädter, his passenger, was unharmed. Hulak is the overall leader of the historic championship. In addition to the fire brigade, police and rescue services, a rescue helicopter was also deployed.
