State support – After storm in Stubai: “Not quite clear yet!”

Date:

A missing pastor, two injured, mudflat roads, destroyed bridges, floods, power cuts: after the heavy storm of Friday evening, the shock in the Tyrolean Stubai Valley is still great. The clean-up work is in full swing. In the valley there is no definitive everything free, everything depends on the further development of the weather!

hope and pray The Stubaitalers currently have no more, while the emergency services had to stop the search for the valley pastor (60) on Saturday afternoon: too dangerous! The cleric remains missing. Few of his belongings, including documents and a Bible, were found on the Ruetzu Bank. His car was fished out of the raging stream. The car is torn into several pieces and as such is almost unrecognizable.

“The magnitude of the storm is enormous”
The consternation in the valley is great. The magnitude of the storm is enormous, emphasizes Johann Deutschmann, mayor of Fulpmes. “The extent of the material damage cannot yet be estimated. However, we immediately started rebuilding and cleaning up. In the affected area, the market town of Fulpmes took construction and safety measures some time ago,” says the local manager.

However, the current picture of the situation does not allow for complete clarity, “a lot depends on the further development of the weather,” Deutschmann continued.

Road to the Oberbergtal torn away
The Oberbergtal in Neustift was also badly hit. Several mudflows have descended in the largest side valley, several alpine meadows have been cut off from the outside world. “The road to the valley is broken, there is no electricity, no drinking water. We supply the alpine pastures from the air,” says Mayor Andreas Gleirscher. 120 people were trapped in the Franz-Senn hut. 65 of them were flown out on Saturday, the rest will follow on Sunday.

According to the police, about 30 vehicles belonging to visitors to the cabin are currently parked in the Oberriss parking lot, who is to remain there until the road is repaired (one to two weeks?).

support from the country
Financial support has been promised from the state. “People who have suffered damage or have suffered damage to, for example, buildings, must be made financially harmless,” explains Governor Günther Platter (ÖVP).

The corresponding government application for aid from the state disaster fund will be submitted to the Tyrolean state government for approval early next week.
