A wedding in the German community of Gammertingen (Baden-Württemberg), 50 kilometers north of Lake Constance, ended in fire that night. According to information from the Schwäbische Zeitung, a tire wholesaler was celebrating his wedding with fireworks on his company premises with 300 guests – and DJ Ötzi as a special act – when the fire broke out around 11.30 pm.
On Saturday around 11:30 pm, the German authorities received the first reports of a fire at the site of a tire wholesaler in Gammertingen (Sigmaringen district). When the first rescuers arrived, a newly built warehouse with an administration wing was on fire.
The fire brigade, who was on site with a large contingent of almost 300 Florianis, finally had the fire under control around 03.30 am and thus prevented the fire from spreading to other buildings.
Emergency services have treated four people suspected of smoke inhalation. They have been taken to nearby hospitals. It is not yet clear where these four people were when the fire broke out.
There was no work in the company itself at the time, but according to information from the “Schwäbische Zeitung” (online edition), the company owner celebrated his wedding on the property with 300 guests and DJ Ötzi as a special act.
Several million euros in damage
The extent of the damage caused cannot yet be precisely quantified, but the police estimate it at several million euros. Due to the smoke development, residents of the municipality of Gammertingen had to be asked to keep doors and windows closed.
A corresponding warning was broadcast on the radio and the German Interior Ministry also issued a warning for a radius of ten kilometers. In addition, the police warned through loudspeakers in the adjacent residential area.
It is still unclear whether the wedding fireworks were actually responsible for the fire inferno. investigations are underway.
